Miss Texas International 2008
Alyssa Perez

Alyssa Perez was crowned the 2008 Miss Texas International on April 13, 2008 at the historic Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas.

Alyssa is twenty years-old and was born and raised in the bustling city of Houston, Texas. She is committed and dedicated to her dreams and the hope of creating a better tomorrow for her community. As a spokesperson for the Gynecological Cancer Foundation and a volunteer for five years at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, she is working hard to educate young women about the importance of prevention and early detection of gynecological cancers.  Her goal is to help young women live a life that is cancer free, through her program Everyday Pink.

Not only is Alyssa dedicated to community leadership, but she is also a peer-leader in the academic area.  While attending the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha where she participated in a variety of campus initiatives and was elected as the Ritual Chairman or “spiritual leader” of this organization. Alyssa was also involved in the Student Ambassador Organization and served on the Executive Board as the Fundraising Chairman. While involved in this organization, she had the opportunity to represent her university by giving tours, helping with open houses, and hosting prospective students during overnight events. Now transferring to the University of Houston she hopes to be involved in multiple organizations and make a difference on that campus as well.

In her spare time Alyssa enjoys crafts, baking and decorating cakes, traveling, dancing, attending musicals, and spending time with family and close friends. Her personal dreams include graduating from the University of Houston and pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. She strongly believes that the future belongs to those who are not afraid to experience life, reach for the stars, and follow their dreams.

As a volunteer at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center she discovered the importance of prevention and early detection of cancer. She has endured several years of screenings to prevent or detect signs of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. She has chosen to dedicate her reign to a program she calls “Everyday Pink”. This program educates young women to live a life that will either prevent or detect female cancers. With the support of the Gynecological Cancer Foundation and using a three step process she developed, young women have many options to live everyday with pink in mind.
